…but it’s Father’s Day
The man I married
and divorced
was and is
the most wonderful
father and grandfather
i have ever encountered.
This is all I will say today
on this writing prompt
for ‘divorce’
Happy Father’s Day
(perhaps further on in the week I will add to the prompt)

Characterizations:
moving, well written
You have written a dignified response and appropriate response today, Patty. Now we know you have been through a divorce, without divulging anything that came between the two of you; and you can still praise your ex. That is admirable.
Patty, it’s good to know that despite any contention between you and your ex, you recognize and appreciate him as a good father and grandfather to your progeny.
Happy Father’s day to all the men in our lives!
So glad you made it*, Patty!

You make us want more, while simultaneously realizing that we probably shouldn’t.
You know Dave, my first attempt at this prompt was brutal, although honest. But as you can see the holiday turned me around. Today I may try to return to it because I find bringing these things to the surface has a way of healing some of grievances. I don’t know if I will, but I’ll try.
Patty: It is indeed hard to write about divorce, in reality or thoughts, on Father’s Day.
Love how YOU handled this prompt, wish I had a second marriage to write about. Unfortunately or fortunately I promised myself “never again.
I’m sorry your ex wasn’t a good husband for you. Glad he redeemed himself by being a good father and grandfather.
As poetry so often does, much is said between the lines. Good on you for being able to appreciate some good qualities in a person who affected your life intensely.
Although short, it says a lot, Patty. As we all know, it’s not an easy task to clear the bars of being a good spouse, parent, and grandparent. Why am I thinking about the classic song by Meatloaf, “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad.”
