On August 18, 2018, exactly 50 years after Fred and I were married, we had a very rare and special anniversary. All of our kids and all of our grandkids but one came together to celebrate. We had a casual party that also included a few close, lifelong friends. There was only one gift I wanted. Pictures. Especially photos of all of our family together. My maternal grandfather used to say, from two people came many. Exactly how I felt. I come from a family that marked every special occasion with a family photo. This was the best gift ever.

*Per the John Shutkin rule, this qualifies as a RetroFlash, even though it includes a captioned photo and this footnote. I had to write something positive on this prompt so as not to be a Debbie Downer.

Love this, Laurie, and no need to cite the Shutkin rule to justify. The photos brought a smile to my face.
So glad!
Wishing you and Fred many more happy celebrations!
Thanks, Dana!
Great looking family, Laurie. 50 years together was a real gift. Some of us have had to piece those years together;-) (I’m not complaining, though:-)
I do feel very lucky, but also get how one of my daughters who is in a second marriage won’t get to 50. But that’s ok because she has the right partner now.
LOL…how fun to read this on the heels of having just read and commented your first story, Laurie. Wonderful RetroFlash, and wonderful photos…and as they say, each one is worth a thousand words!
So true about photos. That’s why my daughter hired a friend to take these. I’ll treasure them forever.
100% Laurie. Who care how many words? The photos say all you need. You know I am right there with you. Love seeing you beautiful family all gathered together and your grandmother’s wise saying. I know how difficult it was for you during COVID to be separated. So glad that, at least for the moment, you can give your loved ones the hugs they deserve. My in-laws did the same thing for the 50th. They hired a professional photographer. We are so happy to have that photo!
You and I are both photo people, Betsy. Not just on our phones, but actual printed photos that capture those special moments.
Love this RetroFlash, Laurie. I’m glad you were inspired by the Shutkin Rule. Unlike Betsy, we do care how many words are in a RetroFlash, but there’s nothing wrong with carving out some exceptions!
Thanks for the latitude to squeeze in those extra words!
Wonderful pictures–thanks. I agree that pictures of family and friends are the best, and the ones I most love to see again. Scenery, nice, but people, priceless.
When going through my parents’ photos after they died, the ones of scenery went directly to the circular file. Family and friends photos were the ones I scanned.
Lovely story and pictures!
Thanks! It was a very special weekend for us.
