People who think that a mask is a muzzle,
With apologies to Julie Andrews.
Papers that don’t have a good crossword puzzle,
Bullies and haters and whiners that whinge–
These are among my un-favorite things.
Sink full of dishes and house full of litter,
Un-picked-up dog shit by those who know better,
Plastic, more plastic, in most everything–
Sure, they all count as un-favorite things.
Roaring of jet skis and loud motorcycles,
Over-consumers who will not recycle,
Smokers and tokers and toxins they bring–
These make the list of un-favorite things.
Big lies and venom that’s spouting from bigots,
Those who waste water and leave on the spigots,
Cruelty, injustice—the pain really stings—
All on my list of un-favorite things.
I need balance, and perspective,
When I’m feeling mad.
And wisdom to focus on what matters most,
So then I won’t feel so bad.
Love this, Khati! Great list, but you were clever enough to use the rhythm and rhyming pattern of the beloved Sound of Music song. Perfection.
It just seemed like a natural—wonder if I was the only one to jump on it.
Khati, this is great! You had me singing along in agreement. Your pet peeves are right on target.
Anything to put a song in one’s heart 🙂
I agree with all of your pet peeves, Khati. And I am impressed at how perfectly you fit them into the song. I was singing them as I read. I’m sure Julie Andrews would approve.
So clever! Some of the most brilliant ideas are so obvious we wonder why we didn’t think of them, and this is one of them! And the fact that I’ve thought of and agree with each thing you mention makes it all the more wonderful! Brava, Khati!
Thanks–I think we are all finding we share some pet peeves for sure. Now I have this old song in my head however, and it wasn’t my favorite either.
Wonderful parody Khati, I’m sure Julie Andrews won’t mind!
Fortunately, I don’t think Julie will ever have to see it lol.
This is pitch perfect, Khati. Brava!
Maybe we can add it to the snap crackle pop repertoire when we have the Retrospect chorus together lol.
Outstanding, Khati, made my day!
Yay!
Very nicely done!
You and I both used another work of art as a structure for this week’s writing.
p.s. I meant to tell you I wrote a song for my son the day he was born, to the same tune. It began: “Swimming around in your amniotic sac…free as a bird with no clothes on your back…”
You must have quite a lifetime catalogue of songs! I love that you did one for your son. We did a series of songs for my parents on their fiftieth wedding anniversary that was great fun and I think meant a lot to them.
