Love the quintessential
Girl-buddy movie:
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
A courtroom dramedy,
New York-Southern twist:
“My Cousin Vinny” rules.
Khati Hendry
Characterizations:
funny, right on!, well written
Love the way you wrote about them and good movie choices too, Khati.
There are few movies I see more than once, and some really don’t stand the test of time, but these do.
Clever approach to the prompt, Khati. I have seen My Cousin Vinny more than once when I really need to laugh.
Yay, another Vinny fan 🙂
Khati, you’re an inspiration!
In a darkened theater
A beam of light
The gentle whirr of reels
Great choices, love them both!
Love it! Glad you were inspired in kind!
Thanx for the reminder Khati!
Among the oodles of movies we’ve watched and rewatched this Covid year was the great My Cousin Vinny with the Oscar winner Marisa Tomei – perfect!
I do laugh every time. Some of the catch phrases have become part of my lexicon by now—and so, I am wearing this ridiculous suit—for you!
Very cleverly done, Khati, and thanks for the reminder about Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Worth a rewatch for sure.
It seems so stereotypical, but the girls are pretty sharp and self-possessed, and the music is great.
Great use of haiku, Khati. Sort of a RetroFlash to the nth degree. And both excellent choices from very different movie eras. And yet, in their very different ways, both focus on strong, empowered women ( Lisa, not Vinny, of course).
As a lawyer, you probably got some extra chuckles out of Vinny too. Marisa Tomei and Joe Pesci were both brilliant.
Very impressive haikus, Khati. Gentlemen Prefer Blondes is one of my all-time favorite movies, I can’t believe I forgot to mention it (although I did mention Some Like It Hot, another great one from Marilyn Monroe). I’ve never seen My Cousin Vinny, sounds like I need to add it to my list.
Definitely add Vinny—it has some interesting plot twists and, with a lawyerly perspective, you should get some good laughs.
Marisa Tomei is every Jersey Boy’s dream Jersey Girl!
Marisa really steals the show-definitely rewatchable!
Wonderful choices wonderfully said. MCV is a clear favorite for me and I’ve seen it many, many times. Still get a kick about Lisa demonstrating that her biological clock is ticking. And Pesci: what a study in contrasts: the wonderfully funny Vinny contrasting with the really scary heavies he has played with DeNiro et al.
Pesci really channels his comic persona in this one for sure!
Great job, Khati Hendry
You sure know your stuff
And you have great movie taste
Glad to have inspired
Across great distance
