I rarely watch a movie more than once. There are just too many great ones out there I haven’t seen yet. My former partner of 20 years had a theory that we shouldn’t waste time watching movies; we should be on the move until we were too old to travel, and then we could watch them all. But sadly, he died shortly after our last trip to India together and we never got to watch those movies. While I’m not too old to travel yet, the pandemic has cramped my travel style. So I watch everything I can these days, trying to catch up.

  1. Sorry for your loss Penny, you must have wonderful memories of your travels together!

And thanx to your Retro friends you now have a long list of movies to watch!

  2. Suzy says:

Penny, I’m sorry that he didn’t get to watch movies with you, but it sounds like he had the right idea about traveling first, watching movies later. Now with the pandemic, you have plenty of time to catch up, and lots of good suggestions from the stories on this prompt.

  3. Betsy Pfau says:

I’m sure you and your partner had many wonderful adventures togethers. Sorry for your loss. As others have stated, now you have lots of suggestions of the greatest (or most fun?) movies to watch. And the time, though now we are slowly, carefully, emerging.

  4. Laurie Levy says:

So sorry the loss of your partner, followed by the pandemic, has kept you grounded. I have found that good movies have kept me going this past year. During the winter, I found it too hard to concentrate on reading, so movies were my escape.

  5. My father used to say something similar about watching television: Instead of watching other people’s lives, live your own — which is exactly what the two of you were doing. I’m truly sorry for your loss, Penny, but having such an abundance of wonderful and UNWATCHED movies out there is a little like being a kid in a candy store…enjoy!

  6. Marian says:

I’m glad you wrote this, Penny, and agree with the others that you were wise to travel while you could. We now have an embarrassment of riches in terms of movies to watch. Maybe in a year or so there will be a better balance when we can travel more freely, with greater peace of mind.
