Have done a couple of international treks through the Orinda Hiking Club. Most of the members live in the San Francisco area and I am over an hour away. Bonds made from hiking all day to reach a refugio in the Alps where you pay two euros for a two minute shower, sleep in a dorm with bunkbeds (if you are lucky), and eat communal meals. Facebook is a way to stay in touch and to share pictures from other hikes done throughout the year. We dont talk about families but focus more on our hiking plans, where we’ve been, and ask each other questions about destinations. We have widely varying backgrounds, are all baby boomers, many retired, but all still have very active lives where fitness is essential to our recreation. Social media allows us to encourage each other and share our experiences.
Communicate to encourage each other and share our experiences.
I agree, social media can be a great way to share experiences and keep in touch with people who are not near by. Your hiking trips sound wonderful!
