Cookies and Milk
Guilty pleasures? Aside from dark chocolate and hanky-panky in the afternoon:
Long baths with good books
Long lunches with good friends
The anticipatory buzz in the theatre before the curtain goes up
Playing tennis on a hot day in a very light drizzle
Playing Scrabble any day
Yard sales
Waiting in an airport lounge with the crossword before a flight to a fabulous destination
Live jazz in cabaret
Fall foliage in New England
When my dinner guests seem to really like the food, and whenever my husband says “Let’s ear out.”
Rearranging the furniture
Cookies and milk
My son’s blue eyes

Wonderful pleasures, Dana. Are you guilty about all of them?
Betsy, in these our Boomer years let’s throw guilt out the window!
I love this, Dana. Your guilty pleasures capture so much of who you are. I can’t wait until we are somewhat back to normal and you can once again enjoy some of these. Great Retroflash.
Thanx Laurie. Covid indeed has put a crimp in our pleasures, can’t wait to bid it farewell!
Just a terrifically clever RetroFlash, Dana. And good for you for having — and describing — so many guilty pleasures. (I would feel guilty admitting to so many, though I certainly have them as well, including a number just like yours.) And your last one is just so sweet, including the photo. But how can we feel guilty about anything involving the wonderfulness of our children?
Thanx John!
Dana, since you were the one who suggested this prompt, I thought you were going to have a major story about a guilty pleasure! All of the things you list are certainly pleasures, and I share most of them, but I can’t imagine any guilt associated with any of them except maybe (only maybe) hanky-panky in the afternoon.
P.S. Happy birthday! Any guilty pleasures planned to celebrate?
Ah Suzy, sorry to disappoint with no juicier stories! I guess I think of these as guilty pleasures because they’re so enjoyable I’d rather do them at the expense of other stuff I SHOULD be doing!
And yes, today is my birthday and had a lovely celebratory lunch, but we are a bit snowed in! Here in the northeast it’s still winter!
Nice list, especially live music!
Thanx Dave, live music and theatre have been sorely missed during Covid, but I see light at the end of the tunnel!
This was a wonderful list of joys in life. The title cookies and milk reminded me of the joy yesterday in downing exactly that, LOL.
Thanx Khati, we never outgrow that desire it seems!
Happy birthday, Dana. Love your list, and it reminded me how I miss that audience buzz at live theater. One of these days!
Thanx Mare, yes I hope we’ll be back on the aisle one of these days!
This didn’t read like a list; it read like a poem! Rhthmic, pulsing, lyrical.
Wonderful! And speaking of pulsing, I think you are the only one of us who dared be candid about “hanky panky” as a guilty pleasure, whether in the pm–or for that matter, at any time! Congratulations.
Thanx Dale!
